Steed Global Farms was established in 2020 within the Lagos, Epe axis. We specialise in poultry farming for meat and egg production, fish farming and small ruminants (predominantly goat and sheep) farming for breeding commercial purposes.
According to our research, agriculture remains one of the bases of the Nigerian economy, providing the main source of livelihood for most Nigerians. Total production of meat and eggs amounts to 1.4 and 0.6 million tonnes per year; respectively, however, food production increase has not kept pace with population growth, resulting in rising food importation and declining levels of national food self-sufficiency (according to FMARD). Importation of food amounts to up to 3-5 billion USD per year.
Even though agriculture remains the largest sector of the Nigerian economy and employs two-thirds of the entire labour force, the production hurdles have significantly crushed the performance of the sector. Livestock development is an important component of Nigeria’s agriculture with abundant social and economic potential.
About 62% of the ruminant livestock population is found in the country’s semi-arid zone and is mostly managed by Pastoralists. Domestic production of livestock products is far below the national demand, resulting in large importation of livestock and livestock products and that is why at Steed Global Farms, with experienced professionals and the right machinery, we want to do our part to help meet demands as well as promote the reduction of importation of livestock.
Our Objectives
With our professional hands and management skills, we aim to be one of the largest livestock farms in the South-Western part of Nigeria, and in the whole of Nigeria in years to come. We are determined to contribute widely to our local and global communities, and the economy at large.
We aim to enhance and improve the population’s nutritional requirement statistics by making food production and consumption hyper-local to decrease food miles, i.e. the distance food travels from the farm to the table, which also reduces carbon footprint. Our meat and egg production are aimed at meeting nutritional standards.
